Rebecca – The Musical was composed and authored between September 2002 through March 2004. The creation of this full-length Stage Musical was undertaken with the permission on the Estate of Dame Daphne du Maurier.

During the period of writing, the exclusive commercial musico-dramatic rights to the adaptation of the novel, Rebecca, was held by Dr. Michael Kunze – German author, lyricist and playwright whose previous work has included the stage musical dramas, Elisabeth, Mozart! and Dance of the Vampires. The rights were subsequently transferred to Vereinigte Bühnen Wien GmbH prior to the premiere of the Kunze/Levay version of the work which opened at the Raimund Theatre in Vienna
on September 28, 2006.

The Purcell/Kazan version of Rebecca remains unable to be commercially exploited at this time.
